BATHINDA (Rama): Due to a gas leak at the Guru Gobind Singh refinery’s SPCL plant, a fire took place that had spread around the plant in no time. About four canters got damaged completely due to the fire. The fire fighting vehicles that had come to douse the flames had to battle the fire for over two hours to get control over the situation. Officials at the refinery denied giving any comment on this.
The SPCL plant suddenly caught fire in the evening hours on Tuesday and damaged canters at the plant. Sources have stated that the reason for the fire was a gas leak. During the incident, gas was being sent through canters from the SPCL bottling plant. As soon as the news of the fire spread, Rama police reached the spot. The fire was controlled by the fire fighting team after two hours but the amount of damage caused has not been calculated yet. SPCL’s manager Ajay Gupta could not be contacted on the phone despite repeated attempts.
Due to the gas leak at the plant, areas adjoining the plant also experienced a stench. Late in the evening, officials from the refinery got a drumbeat heralding about the gas leak in the areas close to the plant stating that people should refrain from using fire as there has been a gas leak at the plant and use of fire can be dangerous.
