Swine flu claims a life in Patiala

PATIALA: Swine flu has claimed one life in Patiala after the flu getting diagnosed in Ludhiana. The deceased has been identified as Jasbir Singh and he was from the SST Nagar area of Patiala. 

Jasbir had recently returned from Georgia in the United States of America. He was complaining of ill health after coming from the USA. Following this, he was admitted to DMC Ludhiana on October 2. He underwent a lot of tests after getting admitted at the hospital. The reports confirmed swine flu on October 8. 

The information from DMC Ludhiana reached the Civil Surgeon office in Patiala. Acting on this, Dr Usha Bansal, Civil Surgeon, Patiala, constituted a team under the guidance of epidemiologist Dr Gurmeet Singh. On priority basis, a list had been prepared of those who came in contact with Jasbir. There were about 24 people in the list and there were two people in the list who also came back from the USA. 

On the directions given by Dr Usha Bansal, a team led by Dr Gurmeet Singh, headed for DMC Ludhiana on October 8 and people who had come in contact with Jasbir Singh when he was at the DMC Ludhiana were given a 10-day course of Tamiflu. Accordingly, the team came back to Patiala and went to Jasbir’s Patiala residence at the SST Nagar area and gave Tamiflu to people who had come in contact with Jasbir. They were given a dose of 10 days. 

Dr Gurmeet Singh stated that Jasbir was a sugar patient. He stated that all 24 people who had come in Jasbir’s contact are all doing well after taking Tamiflu dose for 10 days.
