Around 50 pilgrims were injured after a 14-tyre goods vehicle carrying devotees returning from the famous Peer Nigah temple in Una met with an accident on Tuesday morning. The vehicle reportedly went out of control while negotiating a downhill stretch around two kilometres from the temple and fell into a gorge.

Women, men and children are among those injured in the accident.

The group of pilgrims had arrived at Peer Nigah on Sunday from Haryana’s Karnal district, including the Indri area, as well as Panipat, Fatehabad and nearby regions. After offering prayers at the temple, the devotees had also organised a community feast.

On Tuesday morning, the pilgrims were preparing to return home after visiting Mata Naina Devi and Sri Anandpur Sahib. However, while travelling on the downhill road near Peer Nigah, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. It veered off the road and plunged into the gorge.

The accident triggered panic at the spot. Soon after receiving information, local residents and administration teams reached the site and launched rescue operations. The injured were pulled out of the vehicle and taken to the Regional Hospital in Una, where they are undergoing treatment.

Una Superintendent of Police Sachin Hiremath said the exact cause of the accident is being investigated.
