Amritsar Urban Police have busted a cross-border illegal arms smuggling network with the arrest of two accused and the seizure of seven sophisticated pistols along with 40 live cartridges.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with foreign-based smugglers through a social media application. The accused allegedly arranged consignments of illegal weapons that were smuggled across the international border and intended for delivery to criminal elements.
A case has been registered at Sultanwind Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
Police are now probing both the backward and forward links of the network to identify others involved in the illegal arms supply chain and take further legal action.
