A 34-year-old man from Pehowa in Haryana’s Kurukshetra district died in a road accident in the US, leaving his family devastated just months before he was planning to return to India permanently.
The deceased has been identified as Vicky Arora, a resident of Sikandara Colony in Pehowa. Vicky had been living in Indiana for nearly 12 years and worked as a truck driver.
According to his family, the accident occurred at around 2.30 am on September 17, when Vicky was driving a loaded truck on a highway. A second truck allegedly came from the opposite direction on the wrong side of the road. While trying to avoid the vehicle, Vicky lost control of his truck, which crashed into a concrete barrier along the highway.
The impact was so severe that Vicky was thrown from the truck’s window and fell around 20 feet onto a railway track below. He sustained critical head injuries after landing head-first and died at the spot.
Vicky was sharing accommodation in Indiana with another youth from Pehowa, identified as Happy. Following the accident, police contacted Happy and asked him to identify Vicky. Happy later informed Vicky’s family in Pehowa about the accident and his death over the phone at around 11.30 pm on Friday.
The tragedy has come as a particularly devastating blow to the family as Vicky had been preparing to return to India after spending nearly 12 years in the US.
His father, Kashmiri Lal, said he had spoken to Vicky over the phone on September 16, just a day before the accident. Vicky had told him that he planned to return home around November or December and start a business after coming back.
The family had been eagerly awaiting his return, and discussions about his marriage were also underway. However, instead of welcoming Vicky back home, the family received news of his death in the US.
