Police have arrested a woman in connection with the death of her eight-year-old daughter in Dakhru Majra, an industrial area of Baddi in Himachal Pradesh. A murder case has been registered against the woman based on a complaint filed by the child's father. Preliminary investigations suggest that the girl may have died due to suffocation, but the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report.
According to the police, Roshan Lal, a native of Nandgaon village in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district, was living with his family in a rented house in Dakhru Majra.
In his statement to the police, Roshan Lal alleged that his wife had been angry with their daughter since Monday morning. He claimed that she had beaten the child and denied her food.
According to the father, the girl had told him that her mother was beating her without any apparent reason. She also complained that she had not been given milk, while her younger sister was allowed to drink it. The child reportedly asked her father to bring biscuits.
After hearing his daughter's request, Roshan Lal went to a nearby shop to buy biscuits. During this time, a young vegetable vendor called out to him and informed him that his wife was beating the girl.
The father immediately rushed back to the room and found his daughter lying unconscious on the floor. He subsequently informed the police and accused his wife of killing the child.
Police reached the spot, took custody of the girl's body and sent it to Baddi Hospital. A forensic team from Junga also visited the scene to collect evidence as part of the investigation.
According to the police, no clear injury marks were found on the child's body during the preliminary examination. However, suffocation is suspected to be the possible cause of death.
The body was scheduled for a post-mortem examination at AIIMS Bilaspur on Tuesday.
Police said the exact circumstances and cause of death would be established after the post-mortem findings and further investigation.
