A shocking incident has emerged from Jangirana village in the Nandgarh police station area of Punjab's Bathinda district, where a young man has been accused of beating his 85-year-old grandmother to death. The incident has left residents of the village in shock, while the accused allegedly fled the scene soon after the crime.

According to a police complaint filed by village resident Sukhraj Singh, his cousin Mahikdeep Singh was allegedly assaulting his grandmother, Basant Kaur.

After receiving information about the incident, Sukhraj rushed to the house and immediately called a doctor after seeing her critical condition. However, by the time medical help arrived, the elderly woman had succumbed to her injuries.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Surjit Singh of Nandgarh police station said that a murder case has been registered against Mahikdeep Singh under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complaint.

Police have formed special teams to trace the absconding accused and are conducting raids at his suspected hideouts.

Investigators said they expect to arrest him soon and are also probing the circumstances and motive behind the incident to determine what led to the fatal assault.
