A shocking case of domestic violence and suicide has emerged from Punjab's Ferozepur district, where a 32-year-old man allegedly assaulted his wife so severely that he believed she had died before taking his own life at her workplace.
According to police, the incident took place in Jawahar Singh Wala village. The accused, identified as Manpreet Singh, allegedly suspected that his wife, a mid-day meal worker at a government school, was involved in an extramarital relationship with a member of the school staff. Police said the couple had reportedly been arguing over the issue for some time.
On Sunday, another argument allegedly escalated into a violent assault. Investigators said Manpreet attacked his wife with a screwdriver and pliers, leaving her critically injured. He also allegedly used the pliers to pull her lips, causing severe injuries. Believing she had died after she lost consciousness, he reportedly called the police and confessed that he had killed his wife.
After making the call, Manpreet allegedly went to the government school where his wife worked. He climbed the school's water tank, tied a rope around his neck, and jumped, dying at the scene before help could arrive.
Police reached the spot after receiving the information and took Manpreet's body into custody before sending it to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the woman was found alive despite her critical condition. She was initially admitted to the Civil Hospital and was later referred to Faridkot for advanced treatment, where she remains under medical care.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and that all aspects of the case, including the motive behind the assault, are being thoroughly examined. No conclusions have yet been drawn regarding the husband's allegations about his wife's alleged relationship.
