India won its third gold medal of the day at the Asian Games on Wednesday after Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Darius Chenai finished first in the mixed trap shooting event. Earlier, the Indian women’s compound archery team and the mixed archery pair of Chikita Taniparthi and Sahil Rajesh Jadhav had also won gold.
In women’s compound archery, Jyothi Surekha, Chikita Taniparthi and Prathika Pradeep defeated China 238-234 in the final to retain the gold medal. India had also won the women’s compound team gold at the previous Asian Games.
The Indian women’s team also equalled the world record score of 238 points, originally set by South Korea in 2014.
In the mixed archery final, Chikita Taniparthi and Sahil Rajesh Jadhav defeated South Korea in a tie-break to secure another gold for India.
In mixed trap shooting, Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Darius Chenai topped the final with 34 points to claim the gold medal.
With these victories, India has moved to eighth place in the Asian Games medal tally, with 57 medals — 9 gold, 21 silver and 27 bronze.
Women have contributed five of India’s nine gold medals so far. Three golds have come from mixed events in pistol, shotgun and archery, while the men’s kabaddi team has also secured a gold medal.
