A terrorist affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was killed during a joint counter-terrorism operation conducted by the Special Operations Group (SOG), the Army's Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Shopian district.
The slain terrorist has been identified as Zakir Ganie, according to preliminary reports. Security personnel also recovered weapons and ammunition from the encounter site.
In a post on X, the Jammu and Kashmir Police stated, "You can run, but you can't hide!" while confirming that the joint operation by SOG Shopian, the Rashtriya Rifles, and the CRPF resulted in the elimination of a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist.
Police sources said security forces responded after hearing gunfire during the operation. Following the exchange of fire, the body of the terrorist was recovered near the encounter site in the Chanapora area of Shopian.
The operation is part of the security forces' sustained anti-terror campaign across Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, a large-scale search operation, codenamed Operation Sheruwali, was launched in the forested areas of Dorimal in the Gambhir Mughlan region of the Manjakote sector in Rajouri district to track down terrorist activity.
