Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday claimed that Punjab was ranked 27th in the country in education when his government assumed office, but has now overtaken Kerala to secure the top position. He attributed this achievement to the government’s education policies and the hard work of teachers.
Chief Minister said the government’s objective is not limited to providing government jobs, but also to ensure better education and wider employment opportunities for the youth. He urged the newly recruited employees to discharge their duties with honesty, dedication, and a strong sense of responsibility.
He said the state government’s priority is to provide employment to youth through a merit-based and transparent recruitment process.
Addressing a job appointment letter distribution ceremony at Vikas Bhawan in Mohali, the Chief Minister said the process of filling vacant posts in various departments is being carried out continuously and that more than 800 youths were given appointment letters in a single day.
Mann claimed that since the formation of the present government, a total of 69,094 government jobs have been provided to young people across Punjab.
Chief Minister said the Health and Family Welfare Department received the highest number of appointments, with 636 recruitments, including 616 staff nurses. Other appointments include 101 in Sugarfed, 72 in the Finance Department, 57 in the Defence Services Department, 11 in the Cooperation Department, and 10 law officers in the Home Department.
The newly appointed employees thanked the government after receiving their appointment letters.
Highlighting the government’s achievements in education, Mann said that when his government came to power, only around 80 students from Punjab were qualifying the NEET examination, whereas this year the number has increased to 882, which he described as nearly an 11-fold rise.
He said the government has been making sustained efforts to improve the standard of education in government schools and claimed that the impact of these efforts is visible in students’ academic performance. According to him, Punjab has now emerged as a leading state in the field of education.
