Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh:

“Waheguru” chants echo across the Golden Temple complex from midnight; devotees from India and abroad, along with political and social leaders, offer prayers

Amritsar, January 1, 2026 — On the auspicious occasion of New Year 2026, a remarkable display of faith and devotion was witnessed at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib (Darbar Sahib) in Amritsar, Punjab. Lakhs of devotees from across the country and overseas arrived to pay obeisance and welcome the New Year, offering prayers for peace, prosperity, happiness, and the well-being of all.

Crowds began gathering late on December 31, and by midnight the entire Darbar Sahib complex resonated with the chanting of “Waheguru” and the recitation of Gurbani. As the New Year dawned, devotees bowed their heads in reverence, seeking blessings in a serene and spiritually charged atmosphere. Despite the winter chill, enthusiasm among the sangat remained high. Families, elderly devotees, children, and a large number of youth were seen standing patiently in queues to offer prayers.

Along with the general public, several political and social dignitaries also visited the holy shrine on the occasion. Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bathinda MP Bibi Harsimrat Kaur Badal paid obeisance at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib and prayed for peace, harmony, and progress in Punjab and the nation. Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla also participated in the prayers. Members of the Punjabi film industry and people from various sections of society were also present to seek blessings at the Guru’s abode.

Considering the massive turnout, elaborate security and administrative arrangements were put in place by the district administration and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. Volunteers (sewadars) remained actively engaged in managing the flow of devotees and ensuring smooth arrangements throughout the complex.

The Guru Ka Langar was also served, where thousands of devotees sat together and partook in the community meal, reflecting the spirit of equality and service that the holy shrine stands for.

Overall, the New Year 2026 began at Darbar Sahib in an atmosphere of devotion, peace, and spiritual harmony, once again highlighting the timeless message of unity, brotherhood, and humanity.
