The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government successfully passed the floor test in the Punjab Assembly on Friday, securing 88 votes out of 94 MLAs. Four legislators remained absent, while two MLAs Laljit Singh Bhullar and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra could not participate as they are currently in jail.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann moved a confidence motion in the assembly, asserting that his government is stable, united, and firmly committed to a pro-people agenda. He dismissed the opposition’s claims as misleading, stating they have no connection with the ground reality.

‘Government Has Clear Majority’
The Chief Minister said the rumours being spread are aimed at creating confusion among the public and legislators. To put all speculation to rest, the government decided to bring a confidence motion before the House and prove its majority through democratic means.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema supported the Chief Minister’s proposal, reiterating that the government enjoys a clear majority and that all MLAs are working in unity.

Taking a dig at the opposition, Cheema accused them of trying to vitiate the political atmosphere with baseless allegations. He added that the truth will become evident once voting on the confidence motion takes place.
