Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to approach the Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, seeking the disqualification of its MLAs Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra and Chetan Singh Jouramajra.
The move comes after the party suspended both legislators over their alleged involvement in anti-party activities. Following their suspension, both MLAs submitted their resignations from the AAP, further intensifying the political developments within the ruling party.
The party is now preparing to take the matter before the Assembly Speaker, seeking action that could lead to the termination of their membership of the Punjab Legislative Assembly.
The development marks another escalation in the differences between the two legislators and the AAP leadership. Their suspension had already indicated a widening rift within the party, while their subsequent resignations have further complicated the situation.
With AAP planning to approach the Speaker, the matter is expected to enter the formal legislative process. However, any decision regarding the disqualification of the two MLAs will rest with the competent authority under the applicable constitutional and legal provisions.
The development could have wider political implications for the AAP's internal organisational structure and its legislative position in Punjab.
