The ruling Aam Aadmi Party has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming municipal body elections in Punjab. The party announced nominees for several urban local bodies, including Mohali Municipal Corporation, Zirakpur Municipal Council, and multiple municipal councils and nagar panchayats across the state.
Polling for the civic body elections will be held on May 26, while the counting of votes is scheduled for May 29. With the announcement of candidates, political activity in urban constituencies has intensified as parties gear up for the elections.
Candidates Announced for Zirakpur Municipal Council
AAP has declared candidates for wards 15 to 31 in Zirakpur Municipal Council. Key candidates include Sunil Kumar from Ward 15, Kuldeep Kaur from Ward 16, Jaswinder Singh from Ward 17, Rita Kaur from Ward 18, Rajinder Singh Raja from Ward 19, and Gurpreet Singh Laddi from Ward 25. Other nominees include Aarti Sharma, Parvinder Kaur, Jyoti, Jasnapreet Kaur, and Sneha Lata Sharma.
Mohali Municipal Corporation Candidates
For Mohali Municipal Corporation, the party has announced candidates across several wards. Among the prominent names are Simran Kaur (Ward 1), Dr. Sunny Singh Ahluwalia (Ward 6), Anu Babbar (Ward 9), Satyajeet Kundra (Ward 10), Rajinderpal Singh Gopi Khaira (Ward 12), Vikram Sandhu (Ward 14), Tarunjeet Singh (Ward 20), Rajni Goyal (Ward 23), Gurpreet Singh Bains (Ward 30), Gurjeet Singh (Ward 32), Sukhdev Singh Patwari (Ward 34), and Harpal Singh Brar (Ward 50).
The party has also fielded candidates in Bhadaur, Tappa, Kotfatta, Sangat, and Kot Shamir municipal bodies.
Jagraon Municipal Council Candidates Declared
AAP has also announced candidates for the elections to 23 wards of Jagraon Municipal Council. However, the party has so far declared only 17 candidates, while names for six wards are yet to be announced.
The announced candidates include Jagjit Singh (Ward 2), Amarjit Singh (Ward 4), Kulwant Singh (Ward 6), Geeta (Ward 7), Harminder Singh (Ward 8), Navdeep Kaur (Ward 9), Kanwarpal Singh (Ward 10), Sunaina Malhotra (Ward 13), Sandeep Singh (Ward 14), Usha Rani (Ward 15), Karamjit Singh Kanth (Ward 16), and Gurmeet Kaur (Ward 23).
According to party sources, the remaining candidates for Jagraon Municipal Council may be announced later on Friday evening or during the night.
Political Activity Intensifies Ahead of Voting
With the candidate lists now being released, election campaigning is expected to gain momentum across Punjab’s urban areas. The municipal elections are being seen as an important political test for the ruling AAP government ahead of future state-level contests.
