The body of Kuljit Singh Sandhu, the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sarpanch of Mehamad Mandrawala village in Ajnala, Amritsar, and a former Army personnel, was found along a roadside near Ramdas on Wednesday. Sandhu had been missing for the past two days.
According to his family, Sandhu left home at around 10:15 am on September 21 for work but did not return. His relatives subsequently launched a search and looked for him at several locations, but were unable to trace him.
The recovery of his body has left the family in mourning. Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa reached the spot after receiving information about the death. He said the family had contacted him on Tuesday evening. Randhawa claimed that although Sandhu’s mobile phone remained switched on for nearly 14 hours, his family members were directed to search for him at different locations.
Randhawa alleged that the death could be a planned murder and demanded a thorough investigation, a post-mortem examination by a board of doctors, and justice for the family.
Meanwhile, police have taken the body into custody and started an investigation. Officials are trying to determine how Sandhu reached Ramdas and the circumstances in which he died. Police are also examining possible clues from the surrounding area.
The exact cause of death will be established after the post-mortem examination and completion of the investigation.
