The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has secured a clear majority in the Mohali Municipal Corporation elections by winning 26 out of 50 seats. The Congress emerged as the second-largest party with 12 seats, while the Shiromani Akali Dal won 4 seats.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to secure 3 seats, and 4 independent candidates also registered victories.

With the mandate in its favour, AAP has now begun internal deliberations for the selection of the Mayor. Several leaders have staked their claim for the top civic post, triggering an internal contest within the party.
Among the frontrunners in the mayoral race are Water Supply and Sewerage Board Chairman Dr. Sunny Singh Ahluwalia, the son of a sitting MLA Sarbjeet Singh Samana, Gurmeet Kaur, and Sukhdev Singh Patwari.
The party is expected to finalize its decision in the coming days as discussions intensify over leadership roles in the newly formed municipal body.
