Air pollution levels rose across several cities in Punjab on Wednesday morning, with Khanna recording the highest Air Quality Index (AQI) of 293, falling in the poor category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Ludhiana recorded an AQI of 212, while Patiala reported 208, indicating poor air quality in both cities.
Meanwhile, Amritsar recorded an AQI of 117, Jalandhar 172 and Mandi Gobindgarh 151, with air quality remaining in the moderate category in these cities.
In contrast, Chandigarh reported satisfactory air quality. The AQI stood at 63 in Sector 22 and 78 in Sector 25.
The rising pollution levels have raised concerns as paddy harvesting continues across Punjab. The increasing number of stubble-burning incidents is adding to the pollution burden, contributing to deteriorating air quality across the state.
