The police have tightened restrictions on drone flights around Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport in Amritsar as part of heightened security measures. The area within a three-kilometre radius of the airport has been designated as a Red Zone, while the area extending up to five kilometres has been declared a Yellow Alert Zone.
Police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone flying drones without the required permission in violation of security regulations.
DSP Raja Sansi Jagbir Singh Aulakh said police teams were visiting villages around the airport to sensitise residents about the restrictions. Special announcements are also being made at local gurdwaras to inform people about the drone regulations.
The move follows an incident in which some people reportedly flew drones without permission during a sports event. The unauthorised drone activity affected flight operations at Amritsar airport, resulting in disruption to several flights.
Aulakh said drones cannot be operated near the airport during sensitive events, functions or weddings without prior written intimation to the police and district administration. Drone operators will be required to obtain permission from the concerned departments before flying them in the restricted area.
