In a significant political development in the Qadian constituency, prominent Shiromani Akali Dal leader and constituency in-charge Guriqbal Singh Mahal has resigned from the party and joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). His move is being viewed as a major setback for the Akali Dal in the region.
Mahal was formally inducted into AAP in Chandigarh in the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Following his entry into the ruling party, political circles have been abuzz with discussions and fresh speculation has emerged regarding the changing political dynamics in the Qadian constituency.
Notably, the Shiromani Akali Dal had recently delivered a strong performance in the Qadian Municipal Council elections under Mahal’s leadership. The election results were widely regarded as a significant success for the party in the area.
Given the timing of his departure, shortly after the municipal election victory, Mahal’s decision to leave the Akali Dal has come as an unexpected development for the party leadership. Political observers believe the switch could have a notable impact on future electoral equations in Qadian and surrounding areas.
