A bomb threat was received in Jalandhar ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally on Wednesday, prompting police and security agencies to step up security arrangements across the city.
According to the threat email, which was sent at around 7:07 am, the sender threatened to target Amit Shah’s rally as well as schools, Shri Devi Talab Temple, the court complex and an office.
The email mentioned specific timings for the alleged blasts. It claimed that explosions would take place at Jalandhar schools at 11:11 am, Shri Devi Talab Temple at 12:11 pm, the court complex at 2:11 pm and an office at 3:11 pm.
The email also claimed that an IED had been planted beneath the stage at Amit Shah’s rally. It further alleged that two to three buses among around 2,000 buses being used to bring people to the rally were carrying bombs.
The message ended with references to “Khalistan National Army” and “Babbar Khalsa (Parmar-Canada)” and also listed the names Gurnakh Singh, Dr Gurnirvair Singh, Prof Gurkaal Singh and Prof Gurangaar Singh.
Following the threat, police and security agencies were put on alert. Security checks and surveillance have been intensified at the rally venue and other locations mentioned in the email.
Authorities are investigating the origin and credibility of the threat and taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the Home Minister, rally attendees and the public.
