Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha MP Amritpal Singh, who is currently lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail, has received relief from a court in Amritsar in a family-related matter. The court has allowed him to speak to his ailing grandmother through a video call.
According to the court order, Amritpal Singh can make one 10-minute video call with his grandmother anytime within five days starting Wednesday.
Amritpal’s lawyers had moved an application before the court seeking permission for him to speak to his ailing grandmother. The plea cited the family circumstances and said that since Amritpal is unable to meet his grandmother due to his incarceration, he should at least be allowed to communicate with her through a video call.
After hearing the matter, Additional Sessions Judge Barinder Singh passed the order allowing the video call.
Under the court’s directions, Amritpal Singh will be permitted to speak to his grandmother once for 10 minutes during the specified five-day period.
Amritpal Singh has been lodged in Dibrugarh Jail for a prolonged period. He hails from Jallupur Khera village in Amritsar district. He returned to Punjab from Dubai in 2022 and subsequently became associated with the Waris Punjab De organisation.
He later came under the scanner of law enforcement agencies in connection with allegations related to activities described by authorities as anti-government and anti-national.
