In a major crackdown on a cross-border drug trafficking network, Amritsar Rural Police have recovered 10 kilograms of heroin and arrested two accused. The seized consignment is estimated to be worth around Rs 70 crore in the international market.
According to the police, the accused were apprehended during an operation conducted in the Amritsar Rural area. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said that preliminary investigation has revealed that both suspects were in contact with a cross-border narcotics smuggling network and were allegedly preparing to distribute the heroin consignment further.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Gharinda police station.
Police officials said efforts are now underway to identify the intended recipients of the heroin consignment and trace all individuals involved in the smuggling operation. Investigators are examining the accused persons’ forward and backward linkages to uncover the entire network.
Raids are also being conducted to identify and arrest other suspects connected to the cross-border drug trafficking racket. The police have described the seizure as a significant success in their ongoing campaign against narcotics smuggling in the border region.
