Amid efforts to strengthen unity within the Congress ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, senior party leaders from Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts on Monday came together and visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
Leaders representing around 15 Assembly constituencies travelled together in a bus and reached Sri Harmandir Sahib to pay obeisance. The joint visit was aimed at showcasing unity among the party's senior leadership in the two districts.
The leaders left together from a private hotel under the leadership of the Congress Punjab co-in-charge. Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that all senior leaders from Amritsar and Tarn Taran were united and would work together on issues concerning the people.
Aujla said Congress leaders and workers were working collectively to strengthen the party organisation. He also expressed confidence about the party's prospects in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Several senior leaders participated in the visit, including Amritsar District Congress president Sourabh Mithu Madaan, former Deputy Chief Minister Om Parkash Soni and former MLA Sunil Dutt.
The gathering at the Golden Temple served as a public display of coordination among the Congress leadership from the two districts, with the party seeking to project a united front ahead of the elections.
