A woman allegedly assaulted a five-year-old girl in the middle of a road in Amritsar, repeatedly slapping her and dragging her towards her house. CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the woman grabbing the child and hitting her several times within a few seconds.
The incident took place around 7 pm on Thursday in the Dharampura area of Jodafatak, Amritsar. According to the girl’s family, the child, identified as Maaniya, had stepped out of her house to buy some items when the neighbour, identified as Anmol, allegedly began assaulting her.
CCTV footage shows the woman knocking the girl to the ground and then dragging her towards her house. When the girl’s mother, Priyanka, rushed to intervene, the woman allegedly attacked her as well.
The situation was brought under control after nearby residents reached the spot and rescued the child. According to Maaniya’s father, Pankaj, a tuition teacher also arrived at the scene and helped save the girl from the woman.
The family said Maaniya already has problems with her legs and wears special footwear. Her mother said the situation could have become more serious if the child had not been rescued in time.
The family has filed a police complaint against the woman. Police have taken the CCTV footage into possession and started an investigation. The family said they have not yet been able to determine why the woman allegedly attacked the child.
Some local residents claimed that the woman has been facing mental health issues and that people in the neighbourhood have previously been troubled by her behaviour. However, there is no official confirmation of this claim so far, and her mental health status will have to be established through the police investigation.
Maaniya’s father has appealed to the Amritsar Police Commissioner to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
