Apple Pay Launches in India; starts with select Axis Bank cards

Apple has launched its digital payment service Apple Pay in India from September 30. Initially, the service supports select Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards.

Users can add eligible cards to Apple Wallet and make contactless payments at supported stores, apps and websites. Apple Pay is also supported by merchants and apps including Blinkit, Croma, Tata 1mg and Zomato.

For payments, iPhone users can double-press the side or Home button and authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode before holding the device near a contactless reader. Apple Watch users can double-press the side button and bring the watch close to the reader.

Apple says card numbers are not stored on its servers or devices. Apple Pay requires iPhone XR or later with iOS 18 or later, while Apple Watch users need Series 6 or later with watchOS 11 or later.
