Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal was detained by Delhi Police amid a protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstration led to heightened security arrangements, traffic diversions and disruptions in several parts of the national capital.
Shops in Connaught Place remained closed amid the protest. Commuters and pedestrians in the New Delhi area were seen struggling to find their way due to route diversions and barricading.
At the Shankar Road roundabout, police personnel and paramilitary forces set up barricades and checked suspicious individuals and vehicles as part of the security arrangements.
Police also detained protesters outside Shivaji Park Metro Station on the Delhi Airport Express Line. Those detained in Connaught Place raised slogans against the government.
Stone-Pelting Reported, Head Constable Injured
Stone-pelting was reported in Connaught Place during the protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, leaving a police personnel injured, according to the report.
Head Constable Nagendra said police personnel were attempting to disperse the protesters when a scuffle broke out. He added that his nameplate was damaged during the incident.
The incident reportedly took place near Arya School Lane, close to Baba Kharak Singh Marg, where a large number of protesters had gathered. Police detained several demonstrators following the confrontation.
Nagendra also said that a stone struck his shoe during the stone-pelting.
The protest prompted a significant security deployment in the area, with police continuing checks and managing crowds to maintain order.
