An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Punjab Police displayed remarkable courage after being shot in the head by an unidentified assailant near Amritsar. Despite suffering a serious gunshot wound, the officer managed to ride his motorcycle to Ajnala Police Station and report the incident.
According to police, ASI Jaswant Singh was returning towards Ajnala on his motorcycle after completing his duty at the Amritsar Police Lines. When he reached near Bhalla Pind village, an unknown person allegedly opened fire on him.
The bullet struck Jaswant Singh in the head, leaving him critically injured. However, instead of stopping, the officer continued riding and reached Ajnala Police Station, where he informed fellow police personnel about the attack.
Following his arrival at the station, police officials immediately rushed him to a hospital in Amritsar for treatment. Authorities said that although he sustained a serious head injury, his condition is currently reported to be stable and out of danger. He remains under medical supervision.
Inspector Gurpreet Singh stated that the incident took place within the jurisdiction of Rajasansi Police Station. The motive behind the firing is yet to be established, and police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the attacker.
The incident has drawn attention to the ASI’s bravery, as he managed to seek help despite suffering a potentially life-threatening injury.
