Amritsar Rural Police have arrested two young men for allegedly attacking a bus carrying devotees under the Punjab Chief Minister’s Tirth Yatra Scheme. The incident took place in the Gharinda police station area, where a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 281, 125A, 126(2), 351, and 109.
According to the police complaint, the bus, carrying around 45 devotees, was on its way to the Attari-Wagah Border when the accused allegedly blocked its path by parking their vehicle in front of it. The suspects are accused of verbally abusing the passengers and attempting to assault them.
Police said the two men allegedly stepped out of their vehicle carrying a baseball bat and a gandasa (a traditional sharp-edged weapon) and attempted to attack the bus. Around 80 percent of the passengers were women, while the remaining were mostly elderly devotees.
The complaint further alleges that a differently-abled devotee was pushed to the ground during the incident, creating panic among those travelling on the bus.
Both accused have been taken into custody. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area, and officials said further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
