A 33-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband during a domestic dispute in Juddi Kalan in Baddi’s industrial area of Himachal Pradesh. The accused, identified as Data Ram, allegedly attacked his wife, Sunehri Devi, with a knife while under the influence of alcohol and fled the scene after the incident.
According to police, the couple, originally from Dakpura village in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh, lived in a rented house in Juddi Kalan with their four children.
The incident took place around 9:30 pm on Saturday. Since industries were closed on the occasion of Independence Day, Data Ram was reportedly at home. Police said he returned home after consuming alcohol and got into an argument with his wife.
Couple’s children told police that their father initially argued with their mother before allegedly assaulting her. During the altercation, he reportedly stabbed Sunehri Devi three times in the abdomen.
Woman suffered severe injuries and collapsed after losing a large amount of blood. Her children raised an alarm, following which neighbours rushed to the house and took her to Baddi hospital. However, she reportedly died on the way due to excessive blood loss. Doctors at the hospital declared her dead on arrival.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and took the body into custody. ASP Ashok Verma said the body would be sent to AIIMS Bilaspur for a post-mortem examination on Monday, after which it would be handed over to the family.
Police teams have launched a search for the absconding accused and are conducting raids at his possible hideouts.
Meanwhile, Sunehri Devi’s sister, who lives in the same rented accommodation, is looking after the couple’s four children. She alleged that Data Ram frequently quarrelled with her sister after consuming alcohol.
She told police that he had again returned home drunk on Saturday and started arguing with Sunehri Devi before allegedly attacking her with a sharp-edged weapon. When the children screamed for help, she rushed into the room, but Data Ram had already fled.
The police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
