Amid the ongoing factionalism in the Punjab Congress, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa met Rahul Gandhi outside Parliament on Wednesday.
Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal was also present during the interaction, and the leaders were seen holding detailed discussions.
The meeting has gained significance as internal political activity within the Punjab Congress has intensified over the party’s state leadership and organisational future.
Channi Camp Holds Dinner Meeting at Randhawa’s Residence
A day earlier, a dinner meeting was held at the residence of senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. The gathering was attended by leaders considered close to former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, including Partap Singh Bajwa, Rana Gurjeet Singh, MP Sher Singh Ghubaya, and Pargat Singh.
The meeting has fuelled speculation about efforts to strengthen coordination among leaders dissatisfied with the current state leadership setup.
High Command Reassessing Punjab Leadership Situation
The political situation in Punjab reportedly became more complicated after the recent visit of Bhupesh Baghel. According to party sources, the strong sloganeering in support of Channi and leaders associated with his camp during public rallies has prompted the Congress high command to reconsider its decision to continue with Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as Punjab Congress president.
The developments have created uncertainty within the party, with multiple factions attempting to demonstrate their influence ahead of any organisational reshuffle.
Rahul Gandhi Deploys Teams Across 23 Districts
In a significant move, Rahul Gandhi has reportedly deployed five teams across Punjab’s 23 districts to gather feedback from party workers and local leaders on whether Raja Warring should continue as the state unit chief.
Sources said the teams are interacting with grassroots workers, district leaders, and elected representatives. Their findings are expected to be compiled within the next couple of days and submitted to Rahul Gandhi’s office, which could play a crucial role in determining the future leadership structure of the Punjab Congress.
