Just ahead of Independence Day, a threatening email sent to the official email account of the Bathinda Municipal Commissioner has triggered concern among the police and civil administration. The message, received on Wednesday, warned of explosions at multiple sensitive locations across the city on August 15.
According to officials, the email specifically mentioned the Municipal Corporation office, the Mayor’s office, a police station, a school, and the court complex as potential targets. The sender also listed different timings for the alleged blasts.
As per the threat message, an explosion was threatened at a police station at 9:11 am, at a school at 1:11 pm, at the court complex at 2:11 pm, and at the Municipal Corporation and Mayor’s offices at 3:11 pm.
The email also referred to a train bound for Delhi, warning people not to travel on it. It further urged parents not to send their children to schools or Independence Day functions on August 15.
In the message, the sender used the names Khalistan National Army and Babbar Khalsa Canada. However, officials have not confirmed whether these organisations have any connection to the threat. Police said the authenticity of the email, the identity of the sender, and the credibility of the threat will be determined only after a detailed investigation.
Following the receipt of the email, Municipal Commissioner Lovjeet Kalsi reportedly wrote to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Bathinda, requesting an immediate investigation and necessary security measures. The Municipal Corporation administration has shared all relevant information with the police.
Security agencies have begun examining the email and assessing the threat, while heightened vigilance is expected across key public institutions and Independence Day venues in Bathinda.
