In an effort to end factionalism within the Punjab Congress and revive the morale of party workers, Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel will hold two important meetings on Saturday in Patiala and Sunam.
According to party sources, the Patiala meeting is scheduled for 10 am, while the second meeting will be held in Sunam at 3 pm. Senior party leaders, district office-bearers, youth leaders and booth-level workers are expected to attend the gatherings.
The meetings come at a time when the Congress high command is trying to repair the damage caused by the prolonged power struggle between Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. The leadership is now focusing on strengthening the party’s grassroots structure by energising the youth wing and booth-level network ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Political analyst Dr. K.K. Rattu said Baghel’s nine-day Punjab tour is part of a broader “Mission Patch-Up” aimed at bringing rival factions together and assessing the organisational strength of various leaders. He added that Baghel is also believed to be evaluating the political influence of both Channi and Warring and may submit a detailed report to the Congress high command.
Meanwhile, Punjab Congress chief Raja Warring made a strong political claim, alleging that after six AAP MPs, around 40 to 45 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs could also leave the party. He claimed that several legislators fear their tickets may be denied in the 2027 Assembly elections and said that secret meetings regarding the matter had already taken place.
The latest developments have intensified political activity in Punjab, with the Congress leadership attempting to project unity and strengthen its organisational base as preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections gather pace.
