BJP’s big organisational shake-up: Smriti Irani given charge of two states

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a major organisational reshuffle, appointing new state in-charges and co-in-charges for 36 states and Union Territories. The move assigns key responsibilities to several senior leaders as the party seeks to strengthen its organisational network across the country.

Former Union minister Smriti Irani has been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing both Haryana and Chhattisgarh. Dr Bhola Singh has been appointed co-in-charge for Haryana.

BJP has also assigned Dr Satish Poonia the responsibility of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. In Punjab, he will work alongside co-in-charges Virendra Sachdeva and Dr Alka Gurjar, while Reena Kashyap has been named co-in-charge for Jammu & Kashmir.

National BJP leader Tarun Chugh has been appointed in-charge of Gujarat, with Ajay Mahawar and Gomti Sai serving as co-in-charges. Ram Madhav has been given charge of Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand, while Sunil Bansal will oversee Telangana and West Bengal.

In Himachal Pradesh, the BJP has appointed senior Uttar Pradesh leader Shrikant Sharma as the state in-charge, while Mahendra Pandey has been given charge of Chandigarh.

In Maharashtra, Rajya Sabha MP Baijayant Panda has been appointed in-charge, with former BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya and Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat as co-in-charges.

In Uttar Pradesh, Vinod Tawde has been appointed state in-charge and will be assisted by four co-in-charges—Jagdish Patel, Medha Kulkarni, Dr Pradeep Verma and Anant Ojha. Maharashtra will continue under the supervision of Baijayant Jay Panda, supported by Amit Malviya, Sadanand Shet Tanawade and Kamaljeet Sehrawat.

The party has appointed in-charges and co-in-charges for all major states and Union Territories, aiming to improve coordination between the central leadership and state units. Several states have been assigned multiple co-in-charges to ensure better distribution of organisational responsibilities and more effective implementation of party programs.

According to the BJP, the new appointments will come into effect immediately and are expected to strengthen the party’s organisational structure ahead of upcoming political and electoral engagements across the country.
