A tragic road accident claimed four lives and left nine others injured in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district late on Tuesday night when a Bolero Camper vehicle lost control and plunged into a deep gorge in the Sangrah area.
The accident occurred near Gatalog at around 12:45 am. According to officials, the vehicle had been hired to transport the body of Jagdish Sharma, who had died of a heart attack at Sangrah Hospital on August 11, to his native village Arlu for the last rites.
Family members and several villagers were travelling in the vehicle. Reports said that a few more villagers boarded the Bolero near Chinad. As the vehicle approached Gatalog, the driver allegedly lost control, causing it to veer off the road and fall about 50 metres into a gorge.
The impact was severe, and four people died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Rajendra (37), Des Raj (23), Rikhi Ram (58) and Ram Gopal (62).
The injured include Brij Mohan, Kripa Ram, Devender Singh, Sunil Sharma, Ram Swaroop, Jai Prakash, Sandeep, Kamlendra, and the driver Kapil Dev.
Police and local residents rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue operation. The injured were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment. One critically injured person was later referred from Nahan to PGI Chandigarh for advanced treatment.
Authorities have started an investigation into the cause of the accident, while the district administration has expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
