Five private schools in Fazilka received emails threatening to blow them up with bombs on Friday, triggering panic and prompting authorities to evacuate the campuses as a precautionary measure. Local reports said several schools announced an early holiday and asked parents to take their children home.
The schools named in the reports include Atam Vallabh Public School, Secret Heart Convent School, Holy Heart School, Sarv Hitkari School and Comfy International School. At Atam Vallabh Public School, Principal Sangeeta Tinna said the threatening email was received at around 11:12 am, following which the school was evacuated and classes were suspended.
Police teams reached the affected schools and launched detailed search operations. An anti-sabotage team and dog squad were also deployed to check the premises for any suspicious object or explosive material. Reports said no suspicious material had been found during the searches so far.
The police cyber cell is simultaneously investigating the email trail to determine where the threats originated and identify the sender. Authorities are also examining whether the messages were part of a wider hoax threat pattern.
Meanwhile, Fazilka Court Complex also reportedly received a bomb threat. A police team led by City Police Station SHO Inspector Paramjit Kumar reached the court premises and began a search operation. A dog squad was called in as part of the security checks.
Inspector Paramjit Kumar said five schools had received bomb threats and that the anti-sabotage team had been called in. He said the schools were evacuated and searches were continuing.
Authorities have urged people not to panic and to rely on official information while the investigation and security checks remain underway.
