Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Cricket Stadium in Mohali have received a bomb threat, triggering an alert among security agencies.
A threatening email was received on Monday morning at around 10:20 am. The email was also sent to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). Following the threat, security agencies have begun investigations and intensified security arrangements at locations associated with the Chief Minister as well as the PCA Stadium.
According to the email, people have been warned not to visit the PCA Stadium to watch any cricket match until September 13. The message reportedly claimed that the stadium could be targeted with an “iPhone Android bomb” and also contained a reference to the sport being associated with Hindus.
Security teams, including bomb disposal personnel, have reached the stadium and other locations to conduct searches and assess the threat. Authorities are also examining the email to identify its sender and determine whether the threat is genuine.
The threat comes a day after the Punjab government’s Sher-e-Punjab Cricket Tournament, organised on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL), was inaugurated at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
Officials are continuing to monitor the situation, while security arrangements at the stadium and other sensitive locations are being reviewed.
