Punjab Newsline, New Delhi-
The Supreme Court today granted bail to Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a corruption case involving alleged accumulation of over Rs.540 crores in disproportionate assets. Majithia had been lodged in Nabha Jail since his arrest in June last year in a disproportionate assets case investigated by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.
Majithia, was represented by senior advocate Gaurav Aggarwal, who informed the court about a serious threat to the leader’s life. The counsel cited a state intelligence report dated January 3 that allegedly acknowledged the existence of the threat.
A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta accepted the submissions and allowed the bail plea, permitting Majithia to be released from custody while the investigation continues.
The decision came hours after Gurinder Singh Dhillon, head of the Radha Soami Satsang Beas, met Majithia at Nabha Jail and expressed support for the Akali leader. Dhillon stated that the case against Majithia was “false and baseless''.
