A 22-year-old nursing student was found dead in a hostel affiliated with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in Faridkot during the early hours of Saturday.
According to police, the incident came to light around 2:30 a.m. when fellow students and hostel staff discovered the student hanging in her room. By the time authorities were alerted, she had already died.
The deceased has been identified as Amanpreet Kaur, a resident of Shivjot Enclave in Kharar and daughter of Gurmukh Singh. She was pursuing BSc Nursing and was enrolled in the third semester at the University College of Nursing. She was staying in the college hostel.
Police officials reached the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection. The body has been taken into custody and shifted to the mortuary of the medical college hospital for post-mortem examination.
DSP Tarlochan Singh said that the exact reason behind the alleged suicide is not yet known. The student's family has been informed, and further investigation is underway.
