Chandigarh Administration has fully implemented an online Building Plan Approval System (BPAS) to simplify and streamline the approval process for residential, commercial, and industrial properties across the city. Under the revamped system, all building plan approvals will now be processed online, reducing paperwork and minimizing the need for applicants to visit government offices.
As part of the new framework, registered architects will be allowed to submit building plans through a self-certification mechanism. The system also features real-time application tracking for applicants and a dedicated monitoring dashboard for officials, ensuring greater transparency and accountability throughout the approval process.
The online approval system was initially launched in April 2022. The Administration has now expanded its scope by bringing additional categories of buildings under the digital platform. Officials said the move aims to reduce approval timelines and make the process more efficient and transparent.
Under the self-certification scheme announced on Tuesday, architects registered with the Council of Architecture can submit building plans online for residential, commercial, and industrial plots. The Administration believes the initiative will significantly cut down procedural delays, reduce the need for repeated visits to government departments, and help ensure approvals are granted within prescribed timelines.
The upgraded system is expected to improve ease of doing business, enhance citizen services, and accelerate construction-related approvals in Chandigarh.
