A devastating road accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district claimed four lives and left one person injured in the early hours of Tuesday, sending shockwaves across the Ani subdivision.
The accident occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on National Highway-305 in the Haripur-Nagan area when a Hyundai Exter (HP 35 9123) carrying five occupants met with a serious crash. The impact of the accident was severe, resulting in the deaths of four passengers on the spot, while one person sustained injuries.
As soon as information about the accident was received, teams from the local administration, police and fire department rushed to the scene and launched a search and rescue operation. The injured person was rescued and shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Rahul Rana, son of Jagdish; Vikas alias Vicky, son of Hira Singh; Gunjan, son of Ram Prakash; and Balakrishna, son of Dhik Ram. All four were residents of Jabo village in Ani subdivision. News of the tragedy plunged the village into mourning, with grieving families and residents expressing shock over the loss.
The injured survivor has been identified as 29-year-old Suresh Kumar, son of Mohan Lal, a resident of Jabo village in Karana area of Ani tehsil. After receiving primary treatment at Ani hospital, he was referred to Rampur Hospital for further medical care.
According to information received from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kullu, the accident was immediately reported to the Police Control Room, Kullu, as well as the Tehsildar, SDM and other concerned officials in Ani. Preliminary reports suggest that the occupants were returning home after attending a wedding ceremony in Baragaon, Kumarsain, when the accident occurred on NH-305.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain how the vehicle crashed and whether any other factors contributed to the tragedy. Rescue and administrative teams continued operations at the site while authorities gathered further details about the incident.
The accident has left several families in the village grieving and highlighted concerns over road safety on the mountainous highways of the region.
