CCSHAU and Massey University of New Zealand will research Moringa

Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University and Massey University, New Zealand will jointly do research on the impact of climate change on Moringa (drumstick).

VC Prof. B.R. Kamboj said that research will be conducted on the effect of climate change and weather changes on the tannins and antioxidant properties in the seeds and leaves of Moringa. For this, samples of Moringa will be taken from various places of the Himalayan region, Uttrakhand and the southern region. Two teams have been formed by HAU for the research. In which PI Dr. Jayanti Tokas and Co-PI Dr. Akshay Bhukar from the university, PI Dr. Craig McGill and Co-PI Dr. Penny Back from the New Zealand University have been included in the team.

He said that Moringa is also known as Drumstick. Moringa leaves are a great source of protein and also contain all the important amino acids. Its leaves are mainly rich in calcium, potassium, phosphorus, iron and vitamins A, D, and C. Moringa leaves are used to increase energy in the body as well as in the treatment of various diseases including diabetes, the immune system, bones and liver.
