An elderly couple from Chandigarh lost their lives in a tragic road accident while returning home after paying obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib.

The deceased have been identified as Dharamvir Singh (70) and his wife Shashi Bala (69), residents of Sector 41-B, Chandigarh. According to information, the couple had visited Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib on a scooter to offer prayers.

After paying obeisance, they were heading back to Chandigarh when the accident occurred near Alampur village on the Sirhind-Morinda road.

Police said a speeding and allegedly uncontrolled truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with the couple’s scooter. The impact was so severe that both victims died on the spot.

Passersby and local residents immediately informed the police. A team from Bassi Pathana Police Station rushed to the scene and took control of the situation.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Harpinder Singh said the truck involved in the accident has been seized. The accused truck driver, identified as Daljit Singh, has been booked and legal proceedings have been initiated against him.

The police have taken the bodies into custody and started further investigation into the case.
