Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) has officially approved eight designated feeding points for community animals at Sukhna Lake, prohibiting the feeding of stray dogs and other animals anywhere else within the lake premises.

According to the civic body, the move aims to maintain cleanliness, ensure the safety of visitors, and create a systematic feeding arrangement for community animals. Animal lovers and dog feeders will now be required to provide food only at these identified locations.

The Municipal Corporation had issued a public notice on May 19 inviting suggestions and objections regarding the proposed feeding points, giving residents 15 days to respond.

The Medical Officer of Health (MOH) stated that no objections or suggestions were received from any individual, organization, or group during the consultation period. Following the completion of the process, all eight proposed feeding locations have been granted final approval without any modifications.

The new guidelines are expected to help balance animal welfare with public convenience and better management of the popular tourist destination.
