In Chandigarh, the Sarangpur police cracked down on drug trafficking, arresting two accused and recovering 53.08 grams of heroin. The action was carried out by two separate teams formed under the supervision of DSP Central Dalbir Singh and Sarangpur SHO Inspector Ashok Kumar.
During a checking operation, the first team apprehended two suspects Ranjit alias Karma and Suraj alias Bhoot from the Small Flats area of Dhanas. A search led to the recovery of 53.08 grams of heroin from their possession. Following the seizure, a case was registered at Sarangpur Police Station under Sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they procured heroin at lower prices from Ludhiana and Amritsar, and sold it at higher rates across various areas of Chandigarh and Mohali. Police said the accused specifically targeted students and drug addicts as their primary customers.
The accused were produced before a district court. After the hearing, Ranjit alias Karma was sent to judicial custody, while Suraj alias Bhoot was remanded to three days of police custody. Authorities will now interrogate him further to uncover the full extent of the supply network, including distribution channels and other individuals involved.
Further investigation is underway.
