Chandigarh Police’s Operation Cell has busted an interstate illegal arms supply network and arrested three accused allegedly involved in supplying illegal weapons to local criminals and anti-social elements. Police recovered one pistol, two country-made firearms (desi kattas), and two live cartridges from their possession.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of DIG Rajiv Ranjan Singh and the supervision of Inspector Jaspal Singh of the Operation Cell.

According to police officials, Inspector Jaspal Singh received specific intelligence that a group was supplying illegal firearms and logistical support to local criminals. Acting on the information, the Operation Cell team arrested Abhiyas alias Abhishek (23), a resident of Mauli Jagran, Chandigarh, near the BSNL turn in Phase-2.

During the search, police recovered one country-made pistol and two live cartridges from his possession. A case under Sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act was registered against him at Police Station-31.

During police remand, Abhiyas was interrogated and disclosed the names of two associates allegedly connected to the illegal arms supply network.

Based on his disclosure, police arrested Vikas alias Batti (20), a resident of DMC Colony, Chandigarh, on June 10 from the T-point behind the CTU Workshop in Sector 43. One country-made firearm was recovered from his possession.

Subsequently, on June 15, police arrested Taiyab alias Chetan (20), a resident of Manimajra, near the slip road at Kishangarh Chowk. Another country-made firearm was recovered during his search.

Police investigations further revealed that Vikas alias Batti has a criminal history with six cases already registered against him, including charges related to attempted murder, assault, criminal intimidation, illegal possession of weapons, and gang-related activities. Several FIRs against him are registered at Maloya and Sector-39 police stations.

Police said further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and trace the source of the illegal weapons.
