A head constable posted in the Accounts Branch of Chandigarh Police was shot dead at his residence in Sector 22 early Friday morning, police said. The deceased, identified as Nitin, was living with his family in House No. 662.
Following the incident, police from Sector 17 Police Station reached the spot and launched an investigation. Nitin’s son, Armaan, has been taken in for questioning as part of the probe. A country-made pistol was also recovered from the scene.
According to Nitin’s wife, Armaan entered the house at around 4:30 am on Friday and allegedly hid inside a bathroom. She further told police that shortly afterward, another young man entered the house, shot Nitin, and fled the scene. Investigators are examining her statement along with other aspects of the case.
Police are also looking into Armaan’s background, as he was previously arrested in a case involving allegations of running over several people with his Thar SUV. He is currently out on bail. Authorities are investigating whether there is any connection between that case and the present murder.
The crime scene has been secured, and forensic teams are collecting evidence. Police are questioning individuals linked to the case and examining the weapon recovered from the spot. Officials said the motive behind the killing and the exact sequence of events will become clearer as the investigation progresses.
