Teacher's Day on September 5, 2026, turned into a moment of pride for Chandigarh as Ravi Kumar Jaiswal, a science teacher at Government Model High School, Maloya Colony, received the prestigious National Teachers' Award from President Droupadi Murmu at a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
Jaiswal earned the honour for his innovative efforts in transforming scrap and discarded materials into a unique 3D CV Raman Dome Theatre (Science City) and a weather centre within the school campus. His initiative was aimed at ensuring that students from economically weaker backgrounds, who could not afford educational trips to science cities, could still experience space exploration and scientific experiments through immersive learning at school.
On the eve of Teacher's Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with teachers selected for the National Teachers' Award, and Ravi Jaiswal was among those invited for the interaction.
This year, 48 teachers from across the country were chosen for the National Teachers' Award, with Jaiswal being the sole recipient from Chandigarh. Originally from Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district, he moved to Chandigarh during his school years and was appointed as a TGT Science teacher in 2009.
Jaiswal revolutionized science education by taking learning beyond textbooks and classrooms, encouraging students to explore concepts through laboratories and the dome theatre. His efforts have helped students participate in international-level competitions and represent India on global platforms.
