An incident of alleged hooliganism in Shastri Market, Sector 22, one of Chandigarh’s busiest commercial areas, has triggered concerns over the city’s law-and-order situation after videos and photographs of the assault surfaced on social media.
According to reports, the incident took place late at night three days ago and was allegedly linked to a dispute over a financial transaction. Around 15 to 20 youths reportedly arrived in three separate vehicles and surrounded a 27-year-old property dealer, identified as Aditya.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the attackers allegedly dragged Aditya out of his vehicle by the neck, threw him onto the road, and assaulted him repeatedly. He reportedly tried to flee to save himself, but the group chased him, knocked him down, and continued the attack.
The assailants allegedly used sticks during the assault, and there is also suspicion that iron rods may have been involved. A young man who reportedly attempted to intervene was also allegedly beaten by the attackers.
The identities of the accused have not yet been established. Police officials said that no complaint has so far been received from the victim or his family. They added that appropriate legal action will be taken once a formal complaint is lodged.
