The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places in Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana on Sunday and Monday, September 13 and 14. According to the weather department, rainfall activity accompanied by thunderstorms and showers may continue from the weekend into the following week.
The alert means several areas could witness a change in weather conditions during the next two days, with the possibility of increased rainfall activity. Residents of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, along with people in parts of Punjab and Haryana, are likely to experience intermittent showers and thunderstorms.
The Tricity witnessed cloudy weather on Friday, but most areas remained dry. Light rain was reported in some locations, while rainfall was not uniform across Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula. Cloudy skies continued on Saturday, with residents keeping an eye on the latest weather forecast ahead of the expected spell of rain.
The possibility of heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday could bring sudden changes in local weather conditions. Some areas may receive intense showers accompanied by thunder, resulting in significant rainfall over a short period. However, the yellow alert indicates the need for caution and preparedness and does not represent the most severe category of weather warning.
According to the IMD forecast, the spell of rain, thunderstorms and showers may continue beyond Sunday and Monday and extend into next week. The ongoing cloudy conditions and expected rainfall are likely to keep weather activity elevated across the region.
With the weather department forecasting heavy rain at isolated places, residents across Chandigarh Tricity, Punjab and Haryana are advised to remain alert and keep track of updated weather information, particularly during periods of thunderstorms and heavy showers.
The upcoming Sunday and Monday are therefore expected to bring a noticeable change in weather across the region, with rain and thunderstorms likely to remain the key weather features.
